Now That You've Ordered
Your New Hearing Aids. . .

Congratulations! You have taken your first steps to better
hearing. While you are waiting for your hearing aids to arrive, here are
some things to think about which may make this experience even more successful!
-
Be patient. Don't expect to adjust to your new hearing overnight.
Your natural hearing decreased gradually and you will now be hearing sounds
you may not have heard in months or even years.
-
Because each hearing aid is custom made, it may not fit perfectly
the first time. Some buffing or drilling, or even a remake may be necessary.
This is perfectly normal! Just let our audiologists know if you notice
any discomfort either during the fitting appointment or any time after
that.
-
Make the commitment to wear your new hearing aid(s) every
day. Your brain may take a while to get accustomed to hearing again. Some
insignificant sounds may appear too loud at first until your brain learns
to screen them out in preference to more important sounds. This is completely
natural and shouldn't cause concern.
-
Ask our audiologists any questions you may have. If this
is the first time you have worn hearing aids, you are probably concerned
about how to insert, adjust, remove and maintain them. If you have worn
hearing aids in the past, you are probably wondering how your new aids
will differ from your old ones. Just ask!
-
Your own voice may sound different at first, much like hearing
yourself on a tape recorder. Most patients usually adjust to this difference
within the first few days. If you don't, please let us know.
-
Don't give up! Adjusting to new hearing aids is a gradual
process and one that can't be hurried. The benefits are well worth the
effort.
