Hearing loss is a hidden disability—it shows no external signs of its presence.  Consequently, others are less apt to recognize the problem and respond with patience and understanding.  Hearing loss in adults often causes difficulties in one's ability to perform well on the job, to follow conversations, to keep abreast of current happenings and to interact easily with others.  Feeling left out, a person with hearing loss may become suspicious and withdrawn—placing undue stress on personal relationships.

The first step in the treatment of the hearing impaired is a complete audiological evaluation by a licensed audiologist to determine if the loss can be effectively treated medically, surgically, or through the use of amplification.  Audiologists are trained to interpret the test results and to counsel the patient regarding hearing loss, conservation and prevention.  For people whose hearing loss is not medically reversible, hearing aids may be beneficial.  There are a variety of hearing assistive technologies that may be used independently or in conjunction with hearing aids. ACA offers the latest and most remarkable innovations in high-tech hearing systems.
